In industrial automation, logistics, packaging, pharmaceutical production, metrology, and semiconductor manufacturing, demands for frame rate, data availability, and system integration continue to increase. Balluff’s new industrial camera family addresses these requirements with a compact 25GigE camera for machine vision that combines high resolution, high frame rates, and highly efficient data transmission.

The cameras achieve frame rates exceeding 100 frames per second at a resolution of 24.6 megapixels, with a maximum power consumption of only 12 W at a 12 V supply. The front surface measures just 40 × 40 mm, enabling installation even in space-constrained machine environments.

Direct memory access via RDMA and GigE Vision 3.0
A key technological feature is the integrated RDMA technology for direct data transfer into the host system’s memory. This significantly reduces CPU load and minimizes image transmission latency. The implementation is based on the RoCEv2 protocol in accordance with the new GigE Vision 3.0 standard.

Data transmission is designed for fiber optics using SFP28 transceivers, supporting long transmission distances with high bandwidth. In addition, a copper-based 10GigE variant is available. Full GigE Vision 3.0 compatibility enables straightforward integration into existing machine vision systems.

Sensor diversity and flexible system connectivity

At series launch, around 20 sensor variants are available, including monochrome, color, and UV versions with resolutions from 5.1 to 24.6 megapixels. Modern CMOS sensors from the Pregius S generation are used in various aspect ratios, including specialized 4:1 and 3:1 formats for specific industrial applications.

For connecting external components such as encoders, liquid lenses, or strobe controllers, the cameras provide digital inputs and outputs, two GPIO interfaces, RS232, and a software-selectable input for 5 or 24 VDC, TTL, or PLC signals. The modular design also enables customer-specific adaptations such as extended temperature ranges, special filters, defined firmware versions, or production under cleanroom conditions.

Differentiation through bandwidth, efficiency, and compact design

In the competitive landscape of high-performance industrial cameras, the solution differentiates itself through the combination of 25GigE bandwidth, RDMA-based direct data transfer, low power consumption, and an exceptionally compact design. The combination of high data rates with low CPU load supports stable real-time image processing at high resolutions and in continuous operation.
