Siemens Introduces LOGO! 9 Logic Controller for Automation

Building automation, machine control, and small industrial systems often rely on compact programmable controllers capable of managing switching tasks, data processing, and device communication within limited hardware footprints. Siemens has introduced LOGO! 9, the latest generation of its compact logic controller platform, designed to support more complex automation projects in building services and small-scale industrial equipment.

The new controller was presented at Light + Building (Frankfurt, Germany) and represents the first major update to the LOGO! series in more than a decade. The platform combines increased computing capacity, expanded input/output scalability, and new engineering tools to address evolving automation requirements in compact control systems. LOGO! 9 will be available starting April 1, 2026.

Expanded Logic Capacity and I/O Scalability
LOGO! 9 increases the processing capacity of the controller by doubling the available function block count to up to 800, enabling more complex automation sequences to be implemented directly within a single controller.

The expanded hardware architecture also increases the number of supported input and output channels. Systems can now integrate up to 64 digital inputs, 60 digital outputs, and 16 analog inputs and outputs, allowing the controller to manage larger automation tasks without requiring additional external control units.

A new AM4 analog expansion module introduces selectable analog resolution and extended calculation capabilities. Combined with newly supported floating-point arithmetic functions, the controller can perform more precise measurement processing and control calculations directly within the device. This reduces the need for external signal-processing modules in applications such as environmental monitoring, equipment diagnostics, and process control.

Touchscreen Interface and Improved Visualization
To improve usability and diagnostics directly at the machine level, the controller features a built-in color touchscreen display with a resolution of 320 × 240 pixels. The expanded display area allows operators to monitor system status, access control functions, and perform troubleshooting more easily on the device itself.

For applications requiring larger visualization interfaces, Siemens also introduced a 4.3-inch LOGO! text display with a resolution of 480 × 272 pixels. The external display includes two Ethernet interfaces and supports secure communication with the LOGO! base module, enabling machine-level visualization in building automation panels or industrial control cabinets.

Cross-Platform Engineering with Updated Software
The controller is supported by LOGO! Soft Comfort Version 9, the latest engineering software for configuring and programming the platform. The software is available as a plug-and-play installation via USB and remains compatible with projects created using previous LOGO! generations.

The integrated LOGO! Web Editor allows users to design operator interfaces and simulate automation projects during development. In addition to Windows support, the software now runs on macOS and Linux, enabling cross-platform engineering environments.

A new User Management (UMAC) system introduces four access roles—from administrator to operator—allowing project teams to define clear user permissions and manage configuration access more securely.

Integrated Security and Sustainability Features
LOGO! 9 integrates security mechanisms intended to protect automation systems from unauthorized access and manipulation. Secure Boot technology ensures that only authenticated firmware can run on the controller, while secure communication protocols protect data exchange between devices.

Firmware updates can be managed through LOGO! Soft Comfort, and system reset functions allow restoration of factory settings while preserving network configuration parameters such as IP addresses.

The platform is also designed to support the Siemens EcoTech label, which identifies products meeting specific sustainability criteria related to energy efficiency and environmental impact.

Through increased logic capacity, enhanced connectivity, and updated engineering tools, the LOGO! 9 controller expands the range of automation tasks that can be implemented with compact programmable logic controllers in both building and industrial environments.
