Emerson Launches Industrial AI Operations Platform

Industrial AI deployment often stalls at pilot stage because operational environments require contextual accuracy, real-time data access, and compatibility with existing control infrastructure. Process industries in sectors such as energy, chemicals, manufacturing, and industrial automation increasingly require AI systems that can support operational decisions without disrupting established workflows. In this context, Emerson introduced the AspenTech AVA AI platform for enterprise-scale industrial AI deployment.

AVA is designed as an industrial AI platform that combines generative AI capabilities with domain-specific engineering context, enabling AI-assisted operational decision-making across distributed industrial environments.

Connecting fragmented operational data
A central challenge in industrial AI deployment is fragmented operational technology (OT) data distributed across cloud, edge, and on-premise systems. Emerson positions AVA as a data-source-agnostic platform built on the AspenTech Inmation Data Platform, which aggregates and contextualizes industrial data from multiple environments.

This architecture is intended to provide real-time operational visibility while allowing AI systems to work with plant-level process information rather than isolated datasets. By combining contextualized industrial data with engineering models, the platform is structured to support more reliable operational recommendations in live industrial environments.

Emerson also stated that the platform incorporates first-principles process models and accumulated industrial domain knowledge to improve how AI interprets plant conditions and evaluates response options.

AI embedded into industrial workflows
Unlike general-purpose AI tools, AVA is designed for direct integration into industrial operations workflows. The platform uses large language models alongside agentic AI functions intended to support faster decision-making, operational troubleshooting, and process optimization.

The focus is not solely on conversational AI interfaces, but on embedding AI-assisted decision support into existing enterprise operations platforms and automation systems. This approach aligns with broader industrial digital transformation efforts where organizations seek to operationalize AI rather than use it as a standalone analytics layer.

The platform also addresses workforce transition challenges by providing expert-informed operational guidance for newer digital-native personnel entering industrial roles, where experienced process knowledge is often unevenly distributed.

Initial deployment model
At launch, AVA includes four operational optimization and decision-support advisors designed for industrial environments. Emerson also introduced AspenTech.ai, a web-based interactive platform where industrial teams can explore agentic AI workflows, examine AI-assisted operational decision-support scenarios, and evaluate how the platform aligns with their existing automation infrastructure.

The launch reflects a broader shift in industrial software toward embedding AI directly into enterprise operations platforms, where the emphasis is moving from isolated experimentation to scalable operational deployment.
