Siemens takes industrial production to the next level

Around SPS Connect, Siemens is hosting a special virtual event to present new products, services, and solutions for the Digital Enterprise portfolio, which companies in the manufacturing and process industry can use to react to rapidly changing market requirements and conditions.

Siemens takes industrial production to the next level

Siemens presents flexible solutions for rapidly changing market requirements and conditions and offers interested parties an opportunity to join the dialog to extend their knowledge and to discover further highlights in 3D in a virtual showroom.

  • “Digital Enterprise SPS Dialog” virtual event on November 26, 2020: participants can discover highlights in 3D and join the dialog with Siemens experts
  • New products, services, and solutions for the Digital Enterprise portfolio ensure more flexible production for rapidly changing requirements
  • Numerous practical exhibits and models visualize digital progress along the entire value chain

Siemens brings more intelligence and therefore greater flexibility to production – taking industry to the next level. This is achieved by combining automation and digitalization solutions with cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, edge and cloud computing or additive manufacturing. Using this link https://sie.ag/2TIM1AO, interested parties can register for the “Digital Enterprise SPS Dialog” virtual event on November 26, 2020, enabling them to discover the topics in a virtual 3D showroom and join the dialog to extend their knowledge. New products include a ready-to-use open Industrial Edge platform, new edge hardware, and a new edge application for drives.

A new distributed drive system is also being launched. Further innovations this year include a solution for multi-vendor programming of robots in the TIA (Totally Integrated Automation) Portal, innovative Cloud Connect products for integrated data access, and new Connectivity and Remote Collaboration Services.

Using cloud and edge technologies, manufacturing processes can be digitalized, making operations more flexible and more efficient. With Siemens Industrial Edge - an open software platform for creating IIoT solutions at the machine level - more applications can be introduced in a shorter time on the shop floor, further increasing the productivity of machines and plants while reducing implementation and operating costs. Siemens is now launching the Industrial Edge Management System, a central and company-wide scalable infrastructure for managing connected edge devices and apps. In combination with existing hardware and software products, this Industrial Edge V1.0 open platform provides users with a ready-to-use and seamless solution.

There are also additions to the hardware for the Industrial Edge portfolio. The Simatic IPC227G industrial PC with the latest processor technology is available as a Nanobox and panel PC. Thanks to its excellent performance and numerous interfaces, it is the ideal platform for Industrial Edge and Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. In the field of drive technology, Siemens has extended its Analyze MyDrives MindSphere app to include an edge version.

This is the first edge app for drive technology to be launched on the market, demonstrating how edge and cloud computing can be interlinked intelligently. In the field of Predictive Services for Drive Systems, the MindSphere-based service app has had an intelligent update. In the latest version, the Predictive Service Assistance app is based on an AI algorithm. The app supports customers who want to increase the availability of monitored assets and improve efficiency in servicing. The Sinamics G115D is a new distributed drive system, which has been developed specifically for use in horizontal conveyor systems. Sinamics G115D is a complete drive system, which comprises the motor, frequency converter, and gears in a single unit.

Frequently changing product variants and external conditions require more flexible machines, and the use of handling and assembly systems also means that a higher degree of automation is needed. This is supported by the integration of robotics in production machines. With the Simatic Robot Library for the Simatic Robot Integrator, Siemens presents a new universal robot library for the TIA (Totally Integrated Automation) Portal. In future, users will be able to program most of the robots available on the market in the TIA Portal using the Simatic Robot Library regardless of the manufacturer, and make use of standard operating concepts based on the Simatic Robot Integrator and Simatic HMI. Thanks to the standard environment of the TIA Portal, users achieve time savings of up to 30 percent when engineering new complete systems, which reduces time-to-market.

Siemens presents innovative Cloud Connect products, which offer continuous data access via all interfaces and standards as the basis for current and future IIoT applications. The Simatic PCS neo fully web-based process control system always provides customers with a secure Internet connection and direct system access to every device. Siemens is also highlighting the benefits of the Power-over-Ethernet portfolio as a key part of digitalization in modern companies. There is increasing demand for components that can be installed and operated at the desired locations quickly and without complex wiring. All new PoE switches feature the latest standard IEEE 802.3bt. With Module Type Package (MTP), Siemens presents a solution for plant operators who want to expand their production quickly and flexibly or change over to a new product.

In the Siemens Digital Enterprise Services area, the company presents among others, a new range of services. Digital Factory Optimization simulates and optimizes production and logistics environments by using artificial intelligence. Virtual Commissioning Services facilitate the entry into virtual commissioning by having Siemens experts’ structure, implement and maintain digital twins of production lines, machines and plants. Besides that, new Connectivity Services establish a connection between the production network from any kind of data source and any kind of higher-level information systems such as Edge, SCADA, MES, ERP or Cloud. New Remote Collaboration Services enable fast and comprehensive engineering as well as error diagnostics and rectification to be performed remotely.
