BAUMÜLLER PRESENTS INTELLIGENT AND ENERGY-EFFICIENT DRIVE CONCEPTS FOR THE FUTURE AT THE HANNOVER MESSE

Baumüller will be showing, among other things, how, with intelligent drive and automation technology, machine manufacturers and end users can determine and optimize the CO2 footprint of their machines and systems in order to significantly reduce energy costs.

BAUMÜLLER PRESENTS INTELLIGENT AND ENERGY-EFFICIENT DRIVE CONCEPTS FOR THE FUTURE AT THE HANNOVER MESSE

Boost your Performance. Reduce your Footprint:
Alongside the current b maXX 5000 series, Baumüller will be showing the most important innovation in its product portfolio, the future servo controller generation, the b maXX 6000. This offers even better scalability, as well as additional safety features, and smart Industry 4.0 functions, such as the energy monitoring integrated in the drive. Besides the space-saving b maXX 6300 module systems, the 6500 devices will also become even more compact. The installed volume reduces by up to 50 percent, depending on the size. The peak powers of the b maXX 6500 mono devices have also been increased. They achieve peak currents that are 30 to 50 percent higher.

Industry 4.0 functions - Smart Energy Reduction:
In a 3-axis exhibit, drive-based energy monitoring is used to present the drive system’ energy consumption transparently. This new software function assists in determining the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) and prepares for future documentation obligations within the scope of the EU’s Sustainable Product Initiative (SPI). With this function, for example, after a reference run, the travel distance can be optimized in energy terms and thus the CO2 footprint of the end product can be reduced.

The drive-based condition monitoring will also be shown. Baumüller has developed a software solution allowing the completely sensor-free implementation of condition monitoring. The Drive-Based Condition Monitoring software is integrated directly into the servo controller and can therefore be easily retrofitted. The drive-based software solution is another intelligent function from the Baumüller SmartValue modular software system. It helps to improve the energy balance in production and lower manufacturing costs.

Marketplace-Solution:
In another use case, Baumüller shows how digital marketplaces support machine building. They can be used to save time and costs in the project, since models and software solutions are installed on the computer or control in record time. Together with Flecs Technologies, in three scenarios, Baumüller shows what the engineering of the future could look like.

The user can use the marketplace to download controller models for drive simulation in the open FMU standard. These can be used on different simulation platforms. With the help of these models, it is possible to set up the digital twin of a machine including the drivetrain and commission it virtually. That saves time in the development process.

The ProData X OPC UA server of Baumüller enables data exchange between a machine and the cloud. It is also possible to download via the marketplace. The advantage: The application is available in the app store and is compatible with all kinds of different systems. The server, originally designed for Baumüller devices, can therefore also be run on a Schubert Prime Box Pico PC. In this way, in future, software will be able to be used, for example, for control technology, independent of the hardware. A major plus for machine building, since it only uses the functions that best meets its requirements for the respective application.

Another use case shows how drive-based functions can be activated on a controller via the web shop. One example of this is Baumüller’s smart energy monitoring, which is used with the softdrivePLC integrated in the drive. The ProDrive parameterizing tool is used as the interface between the online market place and the servo drive. The advantage: The user can also book new functions at a later date and thus extend its functional scope.

When choosing the use cases, we focused on possible application with a functional licensing mechanism.
