Hyundai Motor Group Launches MobED Alliance for Mobile Robots

Mobile robotics for automation, logistics, and service industries
In robotics, logistics automation, and smart infrastructure applications, mobile platforms capable of operating across varied terrain are becoming increasingly important. Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB has launched the MobED Alliance, a collaborative ecosystem designed to accelerate the commercialization of its mobile robot platform, MobED (Mobile Eccentric Droid).

The initiative was introduced during Automation World 2026 (4–6 March, COEX Convention and Exhibition Center, Seoul, South Korea), where the robotics division presented the alliance as a framework for bringing the platform into commercial deployment in the Korean market.

The alliance brings together industrial partners, robotics solution providers, component manufacturers, and public institutions to support the integration, manufacturing, and deployment of the MobED platform across multiple sectors.

Mobile robot platform designed for versatile environments
MobED is a mobile robotic platform developed to navigate complex indoor and outdoor environments. Its design incorporates advanced maneuverability features, including automatic self-leveling capabilities that allow the platform to maintain stability on uneven surfaces.

The robot platform gained international attention during technology exhibitions such as the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026, where it received the Best of Innovation Award in the robotics category, and the International Robot Exhibition (iREX) 2025.

A key aspect of the platform is its modular architecture, which enables integration with a wide range of top-mounted systems tailored to specific applications. These modules allow MobED to be configured for tasks such as outdoor delivery, security patrol operations, scientific research support, and mobile video production.

Ecosystem model for robotics commercialization
The MobED Alliance introduces a multi-stakeholder model designed to accelerate the transition from demonstration projects to commercial deployment.

Within this framework, Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB provides the core MobED technology platform, while component suppliers contribute key subsystems such as sensors, batteries, and electronic modules. Among the participating suppliers are Hyundai Transys Inc. and SL Corporation.

Robotics solution companies including LS THiRA-UTECH Co. Ltd. and Kaon Robotics are responsible for developing application-specific solutions and managing on-site deployments. Public organizations such as the Korea Planning & Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (KEIT) and the Korea Association of AI Robot Industry (KAR) provide support for demonstrations and adoption initiatives.

Through this collaborative structure, the alliance aims to establish an ecosystem capable of supporting both industrial deployment and ongoing technology development.

Industry-specific modules for real-world applications
Within the alliance, robotics solution companies are expected to develop approximately ten application modules designed for specific industry use cases.

Examples include outdoor delivery platforms, drone stations used for security patrol systems, and digital signage modules for mobile information displays. Such modular configurations allow the core robotic platform to be adapted for different operational environments without redesigning the base mobility system.

This approach enables robotics manufacturers and integrators to address a broader range of automation requirements while maintaining a common hardware platform.

Demonstrations at Automation World 2026
At Automation World 2026, Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB presented the MobED platform at Booth D110 in Hall D, occupying a 180-square-meter exhibition space.

The booth included demonstrations highlighting applications such as broadcasting support, delivery logistics, loading and unloading operations, and golf course services. Visitors were able to interact with the MobED Basic and MobED Pro models through demonstration zones designed to showcase the platform’s capabilities.

Interactive experiences included manual driving tests across varied terrain, demonstrations of autonomous navigation, and demonstrations illustrating the platform’s self-leveling stability when equipped with camera systems.

Through the MobED Alliance and the continued development of modular robotic platforms, Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB aims to expand commercial deployment of mobile robots across business-to-business (B2B) and government (B2G) applications, contributing to the growth of Korea’s robotics industry ecosystem.
