ABB Introduces 315 and 355 kW Wall-Mounted Drives

Variable frequency drives for industrial and infrastructure systems
In industrial automation, HVAC, and water infrastructure, variable frequency drives (VFDs) are widely used to control motor speed, improve energy efficiency, and optimize system performance. ABB has expanded its all-compatible drive portfolio with a new wall-mounted frame that introduces 315 kW and 355 kW power ratings for the ACS580-01, ACQ580-01 and ACH580-01 drive series.

The new frame extends the available power range of these drive families while maintaining a compact wall-mounted design. The configuration is intended for applications where installation space is limited but higher output power is required.

Typical application areas include cooling and refrigeration systems, water and wastewater infrastructure, heat pump installations, and general industrial processes.

Compact design for high-power drive applications
The new drive frame delivers up to 355 kW in a wall-mounted configuration, offering a compact solution in its power class. In industrial installations, reducing the physical size of drives can help minimize cabinet dimensions and simplify system integration.

The drives can be installed either directly within electrical cabinets or mounted on equipment skids alongside the application. Support for under-unit horizontal mounting provides additional flexibility when integrating drives into machine structures or modular system layouts.

By enabling compact system architectures, high-power drives in this format can help reduce installation footprint and overall integration costs.

Environmental protection and operating conditions
The ACS580-01, ACQ580-01 and ACH580-01 variants are available with IP21 and IP55 enclosure ratings, allowing deployment in both cabinet-based installations and more demanding industrial environments.

The drives are designed to operate in ambient temperatures up to 55 °C, with full performance maintained up to 40 °C without derating. They also meet C3 (IP21) and C4 (IP55) environmental classifications, which support long-term reliability in industrial and infrastructure installations.

Such specifications are particularly relevant in applications such as water treatment facilities, refrigeration plants, and industrial processing environments where equipment may operate continuously.

Simplified installation and commissioning
The new frame incorporates design features intended to simplify installation and maintenance. An optimized terminal section and a patented tilting cabling box provide easier access to internal wiring and components during installation or servicing.

Offline configuration capabilities allow system parameters to be configured without requiring the physical drive unit to be connected. This feature enables engineers to prepare configuration settings in advance, helping reduce commissioning time during system installation.

Application-specific functionality for refrigeration and process systems
Across the ACS580, ACQ580 and ACH580 families, application-specific functionality supports integration into specialized systems.

For cooling and refrigeration applications, the drives include dedicated compressor control features and support for standard refrigerant tables. The system also allows configuration using Antoine coefficients for custom refrigerants, enabling compatibility with a range of refrigeration technologies.

Documentation supporting A2L and A3 refrigerant classifications is provided to assist manufacturers and integrators working with modern low-global-warming-potential refrigerants.

Supporting sustainability and lifecycle assessment
Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are available for the drives, allowing manufacturers and system integrators to evaluate the environmental impact of components used in their systems. Such documentation can support lifecycle assessment and sustainability reporting requirements in industrial and infrastructure projects.

By extending the ACS580, ACQ580 and ACH580 product families to 315 kW and 355 kW wall-mounted configurations, ABB expands the power range available within its all-compatible drive platform while maintaining flexibility for industrial, HVAC, and infrastructure applications.
