Machine building, industrial automation, and systems manufacturing require reliable functional safety components that can be integrated easily into compact control architectures. In this context, Phoenix Contact has introduced the PSRcompact safety relay family, designed to combine multiple safety functions within a reduced installation footprint while meeting high safety integrity requirements.
The new generation of safety relays supports up to five enabling current paths within a single housing. This allows engineers to consolidate safety functions that would otherwise require multiple relay modules, reducing panel space and simplifying wiring in control cabinets.
Functional safety up to SIL 3 and PL e
The PSRcompact devices are TÜV-certified up to Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL 3) and Performance Level e (PL e), enabling their use in applications with stringent safety requirements. These include emergency stop circuits, safety door monitoring and light curtain systems, where reliable shutdown and fault detection are critical for operator protection.
The modules are compatible with a wide range of safety sensors, allowing integration into both new installations and retrofit projects without requiring major system redesign.
Designed for industrial environments
An extended operating temperature range of up to 60°C allows the relays to be deployed in environments where elevated temperatures are common, such as enclosed control panels or machinery exposed to heat sources. This contributes to stable operation under varying industrial conditions.
Simplified installation and commissioning
The relays use Push-in connection technology, enabling tool-free wiring and reducing installation time. Commissioning does not require additional software, allowing immediate deployment once installed. This simplifies setup, particularly in applications where fast replacement or rapid system integration is required.
In addition, a Digital Twin 4 Industry Code is integrated directly on the device, providing access to product-specific data through scanning. This facilitates quick identification, documentation and integration into digital engineering workflows.
By combining multiple safety channels in a compact form factor with simplified installation and high safety certification, the PSRcompact family addresses the need for space-efficient and cost-effective safety relay solutions in modern industrial systems.
