Towards Factory Deployment: How AEON is trained to perform

Hexagon Robotics and motion technology company Schaeffler have reached a new milestone in their strategic partnership with the entry of the AEON multipurpose humanoid into Schaeffler’s Humanoid Gym in Germany. The initiative marks the next operational phase supporting the planned deployment of at least 1,000 AEON humanoid robots across Schaeffler’s manufacturing operations in the coming years.

Context of the Cooperation
Deploying humanoid robots into complex industrial manufacturing requires bridging the gap between laboratory capabilities and repeatable, high-reliability execution on live production lines. Scaling autonomous robotic systems across the factory floor presents technical and operational challenges, including training robots for varied manipulation tasks, validating performance against real-world shop floor constraints, and avoiding operational disruptions during integration.

To address these challenges, cooperation was established between Hexagon Robotics and Schaeffler, building on their strategic partnership announced in April 2026. The partnership establishes a dual relationship, combining Hexagon Robotics’ AI-powered robotics development with Schaeffler’s role as both an end-user manufacturer and a key supplier of advanced motion and actuator technologies.

Technical Solution and Responsibilities
The technical solution centers on the Humanoid Gym, a dedicated industrial testing and training facility operating under a structured "Train → Validate → Deploy" framework. Responsibilities are allocated between the partners to align robotic intelligence with advanced mechanical motion components:
  • Hexagon Robotics provides the AEON humanoid platform, software architecture, and imitation learning models.
  • Schaeffler provides the industrial testing environment, representative factory workflows, operational integration teams, and advanced actuator technology for the AEON platform.
At a system level, AEON learns new industrial capabilities through imitation learning and repeated execution within the controlled gym environment. The platform refines and validates robot policies using representative manufacturing applications derived directly from Schaeffler’s factory floor. This pre-deployment training model allows internal engineering teams to build the operational expertise required to integrate, supervise, and maintain humanoids while ensuring new skills meet reliability criteria before live deployment.

Deployment or Implementation
The implementation strategy focuses on accelerating AEON deployment across multiple manufacturing use cases within Schaeffler over the next six months.

The Humanoid Gym serves as the pre-deployment validation gateway to qualify robot policies without interrupting active production lines. Once validated within the testing facility, the robots will transition to live production tasks, establishing an operational pathway to scale up the deployment of at least 1,000 AEON humanoids across Schaeffler’s global manufacturing footprint.
