Scalable Industrial HMI Ecosystem for Machine Automation
B&R introduces an integrated HMI and industrial PC portfolio to solve machine control, edge artificial intelligence, and operator interaction challenges.

Modern machine engineering requires human-machine interface architectures that bridge localized control, edge computing, and real-time visualization without fragmenting the underlying engineering toolchain. To address increasing software complexity and cyber security demands on the shop floor, B&R Industrial Automation has released a hardware and software portfolio that establishes an integrated digital supply chain of components spanning industrial computing, embedded operator panels, and on-premises artificial intelligence.
Neural Processing and Hardware-Level Cyber Security
Compute-intensive workloads at the machine level frequently exceed the capabilities of conventional industrial controllers, particularly when machine vision or real-time diagnostic algorithms are deployed. The newly introduced Automation PC 40A addresses this processing bottleneck through AMD processor architecture equipped with an integrated neural processing unit. The integrated NPU provides up to 50 TOPS of computational performance, dedicating parallel hardware execution to localized AI-enabled workloads and automated control routines without degrading standard operating tasks.
Alongside raw processing bandwidth, the APC 40A incorporates security-by-design hardware architectures. As industrial networks face stringent regulatory and manufacturing cybersecurity frameworks, embedded hardware security features allow machine builders to protect operational firmware, authenticate communications, and meet modern industrial cybersecurity baselines directly at the machine edge.
Unified Visualization and Embedded System Integration
In space-constrained machine cells, integrating separate display units, programmable logic controllers, and runtime computers introduces cabinet footprint constraints and system integration overhead. The Power Panel C650, which serves as the foundational unit of the Power Panel 600 family, consolidates runtime control, operator visualization, and software engineering into a single compact terminal.
This hardware unification is supported by the release of mapp View EMB, which brings B&R's web-based visualization framework directly to embedded hardware. By enabling mapp View natively on the Power Panel platform, automation engineers can maintain a singular, reusable software codebase across both high-end industrial PCs and compact embedded terminals. This cross-platform consistency reduces development overhead while delivering complex HTML5-based operator interfaces on hardware with lower resource consumption.
Direct Operator Authentication and Modular Panel Customization
Operator workflows on modern production lines demand fast identification, clear status signaling, and mechanical adaptation to specific OEM requirements. The Automation Panel 1500 addresses these interaction requirements by integrating physical peripheral elements directly into the front fascia of the unit.
The panel features an integrated optical camera, an RFID reader for contactless user access control, and an LED status bar for unambiguous machine state indication. These integrated elements streamline user access management, eliminate external peripheral cabling, and support machine builders in delivering custom configurations down to batch size one through configurable function keys, custom labels, and personalized front-panel graphics.
On-Premises Artificial Intelligence for Operational Assistance
While machine complexity continues to increase, machine operators require immediate access to operational diagnostics without relying on external cloud connectivity or exposing proprietary manufacturing parameters. B&R has developed an on-premises AI Assistant designed to run directly within the local HMI environment.
The system processes queries by indexing exclusively against the machine technical manual and real-time controller status data. Because the reasoning and inference operate strictly on local hardware, sensitive machine performance metrics, batch recipes, and operational logs remain entirely within the facility network. The implementation allows line technicians to troubleshoot machine faults, verify operating procedures, and extract diagnostic guidance directly at the workstation.
Exhibition at SPS 2026
B&R will showcase the complete portfolio of automation PCs, embedded panels, and industrial software at SPS 2026 (24-26 November) in Nuremberg, Germany, presenting in Hall 7 at Booth 206.
Additional Context
This section details technical specifications and competitive benchmarking not included in the original product announcement.
The shift toward edge-integrated NPU hardware in industrial PCs aligns with broader industrial trends, including IEC 62443 cyber security standard adoption and the execution of small language models or computer vision models directly on field devices. Industrial computing architectures operating at 50 TOPS provide adequate compute to handle lightweight transformer models and multi-stream visual inspection concurrently, matching computational densities typically seen in dedicated edge inference hardware while preserving extended industrial temperature ranges and long availability cycles typical of automated manufacturing environments.
